LOL! That passage gets me every time. I think I sprained my eyes in the act of rolling them. As if telling the guy it was Thornton Lacey preserves his manliness. What happens if the hedge cutter guy doesn't agree? Perhaps the difference in Mr. Crawford is that he actually brags about it like a badge of honor. Duh!

But Austen doesn't tease the men only.

“I am really not tired, which I almost wonder at; for we must have walked at least a mile in this wood. Do not you think we have?”

“Not half a mile,” was his sturdy answer; for he was not yet so much in love as to measure distance, or reckon time, with feminine lawlessness.

What?! Is Edmund implying that women exaggerate? Never! ;D
