Indeed. When I referred to seeing the selfish triumph unravel, I didn't think that he could stop the whole production and protect Maria by pulling out, just that he could be true to himself, and perhaps turn around and urge Miss Crawford to pull out too. But then he wouldn't be the man we all* love to prescribe SUTHs for.
