Question regarding comedy and Sir Thomas   Written by Karen G (9/27/2010 1:20 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Comedy, penned by Rachel G
Are you new?

There definitely is some comedy in MP, but one thing that has struck me is that Sir Thomas is written quite seriously throughout the whole novel thus far, it seems to me. We never get the omniscient narrator poking fun at him or his thoughts (although I should probably check to make sure that's true - it is my impression on this reading.) And while there is comedy, Sir Thomas is never laughing. Does anyone have a notion why Jane wrote him this way? There is irony in many places concerning Sir T, but nothing to laugh at.
