Not so nice, not so wise

in consequence of the missive, I think you've spelled it out pretty well, penned by Barb JA
‘She looked suspiciously at her sister; Maria’s countenance was to decide it: if she were vexed and alarmed—but Maria looked all serenity and satisfaction, and Julia well knew that on this ground Maria could not be happy but at her expense.’ (14) How very pitiful! It is possible Maria would not have wised-up in Julia’s position because I feel Henry’s attentions to her were of stronger stuff than those to her sister. Also his promoting her for Agatha must be a big coo for Maria. I read Lover’s Vows and IIRC Agatha & Frederick embrace and touch which is probably the attraction for Henry and the Miss Bertrams—at least Maria says she knows the play well. I have no confidence in the sense or propriety of the gentleman or the ladies. (:D)
