in that she doesn't want to lose 15 minutes of dancing even though she has just danced four in a row. Again, I wonder who her first four partners were. Would Mr. Crawford have asked Fanny to dance, or would he have been too busy his his double flirtation? Mr. Rushworth and Mr. Yates were perhaps obligated to ask her, because Mr. Rushworth is marrying her cousin, and Mr. Yates is a guest in the house. Perhaps, Edmund danced with her twice.

As for Tom, I think he has been to too many parties and balls, and he just is not in the mood for dancing. It is telling, however, that he did dance the other four. Apparently, social niceties need not be preserved when it is "only" Fanny.
