Mr. Rushworth was at the door to receive his fair lady; and the whole party were welcomed by him with due attention. Chap. 9.

JA or the ON, appears almost cruel whenever using to any sort of romantic reference between Maria and Mr. Rushworth. It's funny, but at the same time, I find it so uncomfortable. I can relate to both those who can laugh and those who don't, during the Sotherton scenes. Box Hill just makes me squirm.
