It reminds me of the "Wedding of Figaro"   Written by Angela L (9/19/2010 12:54 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Fanny as Peacemaker, penned by Patricia AA
Are you new?

In that opera there is also constantly someone running off with someone else and everyone's playing a big masquerade for the others.

But I also think the scene is quite racy. As far as I understood it wouldn't have been considered prudent for an unmarried woman to be all alone with another unmarried man. But here they are sneaking away into the woods with each other - in twosomes. Nobody knows what they're doing all alone with each other in the woods.

Edmund and Mary being together is of course sad for Fanny, but with Mr.Crawford and Miss Bertram it's quite improper to say the least.

And the old ladies don't notice a thing.
