I agree that Mary, being of more fashionable 'London' society, may not appreciate someone genuine like Fanny. It is rather ironic that Edmund falls for Mary absent her 'feminine wiles', because her glib attitude almost comes-off as flippancy--and someone like Edmund seems too intelligent to fall for her.

But as someone previously pointed out, those damned male hormones will do it every time! lol
