with good books, conversation and exercise. Forcing her out of the shadows can do her some good, maybe help her overcome her shy nature. Remember, she is still in that window between your girl and woman (Mary asks if she is "out" so it is possible she is still considered young). Her mind and character are still malleable.

I wonder how she might have changed if she had gone to live with Aunt Norris. Would she have learned to stand up for herself?
