...I also think that Mr. Norris' gout is more about Mrs. Norris' not wanting to share her own home with Fanny--though she's perfectly willing to share Sir Thomas's!--than to do with Mr. Norris at all. In fact, would Mrs. Norris have tolerated gluttony in a husband? I think not. She's far too shocked at how much butter and eggs are used in the parsonage under Mrs. Grant's rule! Remember, she was busy too busy saving money to spend it on rich foods.

Now Dr. Grant--there's a candidate for gluttony king!
