...Mary seems to be a very social person. Not only would she be alone at Everingham whenever Henry had a whim to wander, she probably wouldn't have been able to socialize with others much, would she? I mean, wouldn't she have needed some sort of escort or chaperone to visit places where single young men would be gathered?
