who is abused speak out. In fact, most of them remain silent. Fanny has a timid and shy personality, and more often than not, speaking out makes it worse for the victim, especially when there is little recourse for escape. Can you imagine the tirades Mrs. Norris will unleash about her being ungrateful? Fanny is trapped, no doubt, and perhaps changing circumstances may spark a different response from her. I think it is a little harsh to call her a ninny.
