Are you new?

To say that Fanny is not dependent on Edmund for emotional support is inaccurate. She desperately needs him--that is why she feels such pain in her heart in chapter 7 when he neglects her in favor of Mary.

"the sudden change which Edmund's kindness had then occasioned, made her hardly know how to support herself."

That closing line of Chapter 7 shows just how emotionally needy Fanny is...
