Are you new?

Do you feel that it is noble for someone who is being victimized or abused to stay silent?

Eight chapters into the novel, and Fanny remains a doormat. Even on such a minor point as a headache!

Sorry Robinn, you and I will just have to agree to disagree on the point of whether Fanny is a ninny or is an inspiring heroine at this juncture of the novel. I feel sympathy for her and her circumstances, but not much else. Maybe that is how JA intended it to be. Maybe the greater part of the novel will be spent unfolding a woman that I can truly admire...
