Mr. Rushworth lacks social awareness or "delicacy."   Written by jeffrey (9/15/2010 4:35 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, 'More' is perhaps the key word, penned by Nicki
Are you new?

Hoping not to drift into Austenuations, Mr. Rushworth, in a sense, reminds me a little of Mr. Collins in that he probably lacks just a bit in the social awareness department. He goes on and on and on about his estate without any regard or sense of what the party is thinking about or what they might otherwise want to talk about.

Again, Miss Austen portrays a personality type that many of us have unfortunately come up against: The person that gets on a subject that may only be of interest to them and they mistakenly assume that you, as recipient, are just as interested in the subject as they are! (GROAN)

Maria, early-on in the relationship, probably becomes acutely aware of this odious trait in Mr. Rushworth and I'll bet it becomes more pronounced as she compares/contrasts her fiance up against the superior wit and cleverness of one Henry Crawford.
