'More' is perhaps the key word   Written by Nicki (9/15/2010 3:59 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, And why is common sense looked down upon? That is a, penned by AnnetteJ
Are you new?

I took that sentence to mean that while Rushworth has about the same level of sense that most people has (common sense), he isn't otherwise particularly clever. He doesn't have any sense beyond what is common. The sentence goes on to imply that Maria isn't particularly bothered about this when she makes her conquest.

So it's not so much that common sense is a bad thing. Mr Rushworth isn't in any way intelligent like Edmund is though, so I can't really blame Edmund for his rather natural thoughts on the subject.
