This novel is funny!   Written by Isabelle M (9/15/2010 2:21 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Not entirely., penned by Julie P.
Are you new?

Much like Julie, I disliked this novel when I first read it at age 21 and completely changed my opinion when I re-read it at 41.

It is dreary and oppressive in places, but it is also IMO one of Jane Austen's funniest. The humour is not as obvious as in some of her other novels, so it's more appreciated after several reads!

If I dared tell... sometimes I even find Fanny's excessive weakness comical. Is there a chance that Jane Austen was being deliberately ironic there? (Forgive me if I am very saucy).
