At 15 I was also very shy and would have had the greatest difficulty in being lively and assertive with strangers (even if they were cousins or uncles) even though I was very lively within the loving environment of my own family. So I can perfectly imagine the situation.

Although I must say, the manner in which she is treated by the Bertrams and Mrs. Norris does go a bit far sometimes. I think at some point I would have started to protest.

Very interested to find out what happens later in the book.
