It would certainly have been unusual for the oldest girl Written by AnnetteJ (9/14/2010 9:12 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Ooh, found an interesting quote, penned by Nicki

in a large family not to have a parent's role trust upon her at an early age, and Fanny sounds as though she was her mother's right hand. Her cousins, however, are unknown to her, and their circumstances are obviously not her circumstances. So she is now in totally unfamiliar territory, and I think that would make many children, particularly one as sensitive as Fanny, hang back.
