Your point is well taken...just why does Mrs. Norris initiate the discussion to take on the responsibility for one of Mrs. Price's children? And why a girl?

She certainly likes to be in control, and especially if she can do so without any personal expense. However, I'm not satisfied that is the only reason for her actions.

LOL--Maybe this is some twisted way at getting back at her sister Frances for marrying against the family's wishes.
