Did JA error in making Fanny So Timid? Written by Patricia AA (9/13/2010 6:02 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, That's a very good point., penned by Erica

I hate to suggest such a thing! But the prior points are really well taken...would MP be a better read if Fanny had started the novel as a woman of spirit instead of a shy, timid, and rather plain young girl?

Anybody have any thoughts on why Austen went this direction with this heroine?
