but I stil think at least some of Fanny's behavior stems from her innate personality. Even people who are shy and quiet are usually not so in the bosom of their families. So in her own home, where she is the eldest, Fanny may have been a gentle leader, but in an unfamiliar environment, where she is quite clearly at the bottom of the totem pole, she shows her native timidity. If she had been blessed with more natural self-confidence, then, after a period of adjusting to her new surroundings and complanions, that self-confidence would have come out and she would have asserted herself.
