Are you new?

I grew up in a large family, crowded house, and we were all boisterous and outgoing. You had to be in order to survive LOL. For the eldest daughter in such a home, I think JA was unrealistic in making Fanny so shy and timid.

Was Fanny possibly mistreated by her father, who apparently liked his drink? Is that why she is so lacking in self-esteem and spirit when she arrives?
