That is why she is treated as an afterthought--other than Edmund, everyone acts as if Fanny is invisible.

Is she so quiet because Mrs. Norris and the Bertram sisters have collectively browbeaten her for the past five years? Or was she browbeaten before she ever arrived at Mansfield Park?
