... that Sir Thomas had the right to dispose the livings of Mansfield and the second living (which I won't name as we haven't got to it in the book yet). Being short of money, he now sold the Mansfield living, for the lifetime of the purchaser. Edmund could get it eventually, if he outlived the purchaser, but in the meantime, he would only have the second living to provide him with an occupation and income.
