My SO and I finished S+S and are now starting on The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn...Wow, culture shock! I'm more familiar with 1800's England than mid-1800's America...and I live here (on the west coast, but still!) That said, what a touching tone H.Finn has, such a boyish yet adult and compassionate voice. So far, this is extraordinary to re-read (re-hear, really, as my SO is reading it aloud before we go to sleep.) Dialect aside, racism too (not so sure, so far, that it's actually even 'racist'...so far I detect in Twain/Huck's voice a magnificent awareness, respect, identification, and affection with the several other characters...the jargon of racism, but not the soul of it) it really is engaging, to this point. Has anyone re-read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn lately? It's been many moons for me....read it for high school and again for a college lit. course, then once again on my own, but still, that was all many moons ago....I'm now 62. I think we're about to head down the river...has anyone traveled with Huck lately?
