in consequence of the missive, Heyer: The Black Moth (possible spoilers), penned by Jasmine D
What I like most about Heyer is her humorous characterizations of side characters. I'm not sure The Black Moth showcases that particular skill (it's been a while since I read it)... it may have developed later in her career.
A few such characters that come to mind are Pelham and Pommeroy (The Convenient Marriage, 1934) and Nugent Fotherby (Sylvester, 1957). I recommend both of these books! See if you agree that the characters are in the tradition of Austen's humorous characters, such as Miss Bates.
