Everyone in my group agreed they needed my list of characters handout, which I did by families, giving relationships but not any spoiler-type information. At the top of the list I had place names that figure into the novel, in alpha order, with identifying phrases like "home that Mr. Bingley was renting in the Meryton area." After that came the names of the families that figure the most in the novel (even if some of the people in the family aren't discussed much). At the end of the list I had "Minor Characters" and a brief phrase about each. In the case of major characters, I bolded those.
They also appreciated a handout on customs of that time, such as entailment, white soup, etc.
The difference in our reading groups is definitely educational background. Yours should be able to handle the discussion a lot better. The stricken looks on the faces of my group when I asked my questions were something I'll never forget! They wanted so much to participate, but hadn't the facts from the novel to do so.
Yes, I'd like to hear how it went once it's over.
