I had understood that many of Cassandra's letters were destroyed by her to keep some of Jane Austen's more severe comments from the relatives and friends of whom they were written.
Other people receiving them might not have kept them, especially if they were full of chat. That is the only thing I can imagine -- had the recipients known what delight WE would have perused them..!
