To Martha Lloyd February 16, 1813 from Chawton to Barton
This is basically a chatty letter to Martha, who is at Barton. Jane's mother has been sick and is apparently recovering as she writes. Her brother frank has written that he and his family are in new lodgings in Deal. (From Le Faye's A Chronology of Jane Austen and her Family: 1700-2000)
Edward Austen Knight's three sons, George, Henry and William stay the night en route to Winchester College.
The news they are awaiting from Sloane street is about Henry's wife Eliza, who is terminally ill.
Martha was apparently also applied to for information about hedgerows in Northamptonshire and had been unable to supply the requested information. Jane tells her not worry for she is sure to get the information from Henry, who is acquainted wtih James Langham of Cottesbrooke near Northampton who was related to James Tilson, one of HTA's banking partners.
