"As soon as a Whist party was formed & a round Table threatened, I made my Mother an excuse, & came away; leaving just as many for their table as there were at Mrs. Grant."
I love these casual references to the characters/situations in her books that Austen sometimes inserts in her casual chat. Of course she is referring to Mrs. Grant's card table in Mansfield Park. Notation from Le Faye: Eleven, less four for whist, and JA, leaves six. The round table in MP consisted of Lady Bertram and Edmund, two Prices, and two Crawfords.
