in consequence of the missive, Letter 77: Eating turkies for Christmas, penned by Line
As the letter is dated around 30 November, I get the impression the Austens began Christmas preparations fairly early (at least by my Christmas standard!) like sending presents, eating turkey.
Jane Austen then mentions to Martha Lloyd about returning in time to send the Turkey yourself ...may refer to the Austens custom of sending home-grown turkies as presents to family and friends.
Jane further mentions to Martha the Christmas Duty of 'laying out Edward's money for the Poor'.
A picture of Regency era Christmas preparations!
