...I understood perfectly.

I was wondering about her use of the trite and oft-misused phrase "silence is consent" -- misused to justify what the speaker knows is not or will not be consented to; misused to justify even asking for clarification or a definite decision. Specifically:

1. Was it common during this period?

2. Was it so misused during this period?

3. given 1 and 2, was she misusing it, or was she parodying it?

Of course, we can't know for sure, but I hope better educated people than I can make better guesses than I.
