That was a very detailed telling -- much more so than I would have thought survived from so long ago!

It does say that Mr. Austen was erroneous in his belief that the canal would not benefit him, but with no additional information. I wonder if the speculation was merely on the grounds that any business increase helps all surrounding people's wealth?

Anyway, you have my thanks. That was wonderful.
