I know it is all supposition, but since it seems Cassandra has taken to passing on Fanny's whimsical messages, and Author Austen immediately asks what her opinion of 'Diana' is, I am inclined to think that Fanny has chosen a name for some word game, and Aunt Jane was continuing the fun.

Or perhaps I am like Emma, supposing myself to be quite in the secret; and although I add graciously the caveat that

One might guess twenty things without guessing exactly the right

-- I never suspect that I am badly mistaken at the root, so trunk, branch and leaf must all be discarded, too!
