Jane is still in London and much involved with people and events. The new nephew of whom she writes is Henry Edgar Austen, Frank Austen's second son, born in Portsmouth on April 21. With apologies to Line, I think that the wish that "if he ever comes to be hanged it will not be till we are too old to care about it." is Jane Austen at her acerbic, tongue-in-cheek best. Likewise, the brother who "may arrive today" is Frank, who was expected in Portsmouth about that time. I love reading about S&S and learning that Jane is currently working on Willoughby's first appearance. The Mrs. K who is concerned with Jane Austen's incomes from S&S is her aunt, Mrs. Knight, who adopted Jane's brother Edward. Cheltenham to which Miss B goes in June is a spa town in Gloucestershire, like Bath known for its curative waters. Le Faye provides some examples of the music performed at Eliza Austen's musical evening: Rosabelle by John Wall Callcott The Red Cross Knight by John Wall Callcott In peace love tunes the shepherd's reed by John Attwood The Mayfly by John Wall Callcott (who seems to have been a favorite) The God-daughter to whom Jane Austen sends particular Love is Louisa Austen (Knight).
