in consequence of the missive, Lady Sondes' Impudence, penned by Robbin
From what I've read, it was considered perfectly OK for a man to remarry after his wife's death, but the ideal was still that a widow should remain faithful to her husband's memory (though of course, as Reeba points out, in real life widows remarried on a regular basis).
