Eliza's Musical Evening.   Written by Mandy N (8/21/2011 11:27 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Letter 70 (Brabourne 55), penned by Myretta
Are you new?

'above 80 people are invited for next Tuesday Eveng & there is to be some very good Music, 5 professionals, 3 of them Glee singers, besides Amateurs...One of the Hirelings, is a Capital on the Harp, from which I expect great pleasure.'
JA. 18-20. April. 1811.

In her letter Jane remarks on the planning of a dinner and Music Party.
Her brother Henry Austen and his wife Eliza (formerly the Comtesse de Feuillide) gave a grand musical party during her visit to Sloane Street in 1811.
Apparently, some of the invited guests were French as Eliza retained contact with French emigrees in London.
How lovely Jane could look forward to a party with some excitement and, apparently, she appreciated good Harp playing.

Reminiscent of the musically accomplished Georgiana Darcy in Pride & Prejudice or Edmund Bertram's appreciation of harp music in Mansfield Park ?
