Letter 69   Written by Myretta (8/19/2011 8:12 a.m.)
Are you new?

Letter 69 is also not in the Brabourne edition. This was written on July 26, 1809 by Jane Austen to her brother Francis in China on the birth of his first son, Francis William the younger on July 12.

Mary Jane was Francis and Mary's first child, born in 1807 and, apparently, a difficult birth.

Mrs. Austen, Jane, and Cassandra took up residence in Chawton Cottage on July 7, 1809.

The "over-right of us" refers to Chawton Great House. Francis returned to England in 1810, but Charles and Fanny and family did not return until 1811.
