"What an alarming Bride Mrs Colonel Tilson must have been; such a parade is one of the most immodest pieces of modesty that one can imagine. To attract notice could have been her only wish. It augurs ill for her family; it announces not great sense, and therefore ensures boundless influence."

According to Le Faye, the new Mrs Tilson had been a widow, which may account for her failure to behave with the modest demeanour expected of a bride. But I immediately thought of the dreadful Augusta Elton with her love of finery and parade, and her know-it-all ways.
