They also have political correspondents, or Jane Austen does, at least. Although they seem to have let her down at this point!

How certain was Le Faye that the Regency mentioned was of Portugal? Was it only a thought, or is she reasonably sure? I wonder what reflection Author Austen wasted on it? Is it mentioned in an earlier (published) letter?

Can anyone make out why she is hopes for the two ladies spoken of be detained at Portsmouth?
