Are you new?

I remember during our last GR of JA's letters, in letter #41, informing her brother Frank of their father's death, JA wrote:

"The Serenity of the Corpse is most delightful! -It preserves the sweet, benevolent smile which always distinguished him".

This made me realize that yes, people were simply much more *familiar* with death in JA's time, and made me wonder if perhaps Mr. Austen Senior was laid out in the front parlour or his bedroom before his burial.
