Death & mourning .   Written by Mandy N (1/31/2010 2:24 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Life goes on..., penned by MarianneR
Are you new?

Just now I felt a bit startled to read of Jane's curiosity about the Corpse;
'-I suppose you see the Corpse, how does it appear ?' The question is almost casually dropped into the conversation of her letter.
Does that mean Elizabeth Austen-Knight's Corpse was on show in the house for family and friends to view or say last goodbyes ?
I think people in JA's time must have been more familiar with death and mourning considering to hve practises of mouning clothes and, presumably viewing the Corpse before funeral.
