in consequence of the missive, Elizabeth, penned by Elizabeth K
Elizabeth had (apparently) recovered from the birth of this child 12 days previous AND was well enough to eat a hearty dinner (according to what Fanny wrote in her own diary) just before illness/death struck. To me this is not a definitive indication that childbirth was the cause of her death, therefore.
According to what Fanny wrote, her mother "was taken violently ill and expired ... in half an hour." Elizabeth could have suffered an acute attack of something totally unrelated to childbirth. The doctors at the time did not determine a cause of death, and I do not believe that we can do so now, some 200+ years later.
So yes, it could just be a coincidence. Anything else is speculation. Period.
