Mourning for Elizabeth.   Written by Mandy N (1/30/2010 10:26 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Letter #58: Sad News, penned by kathleen (elder)
Are you new?

'We have felt, we do feel for you all...& for derest Edward, whose loss and sufferings seem to make those of every other preson nothing'.

Elizabeth's death appears unexpected despite having just given birth to new baby, Brook-John. Shock clearly filled Jane with grief for the entire family at Godmersham and se writes very feelingly on the departed, Elizabeth.
Her concern goes out to the little boys, Edward, jnr and George whom she'd loved to stay with her, at Castle Square.

Jane ends with a query to Cassandra for a direction about Mourning.

Jane & Cassandra may've worn Mourning for ELiabeth similar to black bombazine Morning dress on link.
Costume plate from The Lady's Magazine. Mourning costume. Dec. 1810 in bombazine and crepe.
