Today's letter, written on October 1, finds Jane Austen back in Southampton and Cassandra in Godmersham, attending the birth of Elizabeth and Edward Knight's sixth son and 11th child. Yikes! Cassandra, apparently got to Godersham after the child was born. The son, Brook-John, was born on September 28, and this letter is in response to Cassandra's announcing her arrival and the birth.
