This is the woman, who in a previous letter said a woman might have miscarried do to the fright of seeing her husband. There is a dark humor here sometimes I think directed towards husbands.

Also note that I put shocked in quotes, by which I meant that I wasn't so shocked, but that it seems so contrary to my view of JA's polite world and that sometimes it gives me pause.
