that I had not read the passage close enough. I glazed over the end of the passage where JA writes:

"After this I hope we shall not be disappointed of our friend's visit; my honour as well as my affection will be concerned in it"

The note in Brabourne says he has no idea of the meaning here, I think you are correct Myretta, as JA feels honour AND affection are involved.

Now if I knew Mrs.P's story from Letter 40 I would be a happy camper...
