'I want to hear of your gathering Strawberries...'   Written by Mandy N (1/25/2010 3:00 p.m.)
Are you new?

Jane Austen appears to have been quite fond of this fruit !

She mentions gathering Strawberries three times during this visit to Godmersham, and makes other mention of this fruit. I wonder if Jane may've actually agreed with Mrs Elton- 'the best fruit', 'everybody's favourite' in the Strawberry gathering (Emma).
Mrs E mentions strawberry varieties of Chili, whitewood and hautboys (Ch. 42)
Does anyone know about Edward's Strawberries at Godmersham ? :)

I believe in the Regency era , strawberries were used for preserves and dessert such as Strawberry tarte or I presume, freshly eaten.
