Rigors of travel   Written by Barbara (1/24/2010 10:59 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Leaving London, penned by kathleen (elder)
Are you new?

The first section of that letter made me think very clearly about how arduous any sort of distance travel would have been at that time! The long time to be spent sitting, the discomfort of the carriage, either due to the condition of the roads or the weather, the lack of choice about what to eat, etc. would all be hard to take.

Imagine having to eat at the same restaurant where you had been served something unpleasant on a previous journey, only have the same again! I wonder what 'bad butter' would mean--rancid? In any case, ugh.
